The Harts Honeymoon in South Africa: Protea Hotel Stellenbosch

Thus far, our honeymoon had consisted of a once-in-a-lifetime safari balanced with time in the lovely city of Cape Town. Really, there’s not much more that a couple could ask for when it comes to an ideal honeymoon. But we were not finished yet. To end our time in South Africa, we spent two nights in the gorgeous Cape Winelands outside of Cape Town. As I mentioned before, my dad gifted us 6 nights of Marriott hotels as a wedding present (best gift ever!). For our time in the Winelands, we stayed at the Protea Hotel Stellenbosch.

Tired from our early morning hike, we both were a bit drowsy as our Uber took us from Cape Town to Stellenbosch, one of the largest and oldest towns set among the rolling hills that make up the Winelands. Soon, however, the scenery was so distracting that it was impossible to sleep. Blue and gray mountains covered in clouds served as the backdrop for green hills dotted with vines and bright white buildings. The beauty continued as we arrived at our hotel.

After checking in, we were escorted by golf cart to our room, which had a special honeymoon surprise. Each room was located in a fourplex with two rooms on the ground level and two above. The room was spacious and full of light. And it was impossible not to take a nap in the cozy bed.

But best of all was the view from our balcony.

The Protea made for a lovely stay. The staff was friendly, there was an onsite bar and restaurant, and the breakfast buffet spread was impressive. It was a bit out of the main part of town, but we had no difficulty getting an Uber when we needed one. And the open feel and the views more than made up for any inconvenience.

We made the most of our last days in South Africa. Up next, an amazing restaurant, a wine tour (of course), and a morning at the spa. To wrap things up will be allll of the budget details.
