Weekend Cruisin’: Packing List
If there’s one thing I spend too much time doing when preparing for a trip, it’s deciding what to pack. This trip presented a set of unique packing challenges. First, we’d be going from winter temps in Oregon to much warmer weather in Florida and the Bahamas. Second, we were fitting in an extra day at a theme park prior to the cruise. And third, we would be enjoying that day in the park following an overnight flight. So I needed outfits that could go from cool to warm and back, something that could transition from red eye flight cozy to Harry Potter World comfy, and all of the cruise essentials. After much consideration, here is the list.
What I wore:
Black pants
Pink sweater
Rothy’s flats (my new favorite - although it’s no longer available, the truffle color goes with everything)
What I packed:
My custom Harry Potter shirt - I made sure this was easily accessible for a post-flight quick change from the pink sweater I wore on the plane (I bought this on Etsy and it seems like it’s no longer available).
Pink linen shorts (bought on Amazon)
Blue and white linen pants
Brown maxi dress
Red and white maxi dress (also Amazon)
Teal and floral maxi dress
Black lace dress - for the dress up night (there was a loosely enforced “dress your best” night one night of the three nights)
Navy polka dot shirt
Brown tank
Striped linen wrap
Navy one shoulder top
Off white fringe sweater - this I put over the brown dress for the plane ride and arrival back in Oregon
Pink sandals
Silver flip flops
Chacos
Heels - I ended up wearing my Rothy’s instead, so could have gotten by with one less pair of shoes
To sum it up, I took one pair of shorts, two pairs of pants, 4 dresses, and 8 shirts (one of which was a tank and two that were worn over other shirts), along with two swimsuits and a coverup. I wore one pair of shoes and packed the remaining 4. Of course, I also brought the basics and my standard cosmetics (maybe I’ll dive into this one day - I’ve gotten it down to an easy to carryon list), along with a handful of accessories and my trusty Kavu sling bag. This may look like a long list, but everything packed small, especially with the help of my favorite packing cubes. Like I mentioned, I could have left the heels at home, but otherwise I wore everything I packed at least once, but as you can see, almost everything could be worn more than once in various combinations. In fact, this packing list could have been almost enough for a longer cruise, especially if I brought some detergent to do some in cabin laundry along the way. The two swimsuits were definitely a must.
So there you have it, a good, if not perfect, packing list for a weekend cruise with a stop to indulge my inner Harry Potter nerd. Up next, a really fun day in Nassau that makes me want to go back to the Bahamas right this very second.
